Morningpaw was quite proud of herself, she couldn't lie. It was obvious in the way she had her chest puffed out as she trotted into camp with a mouthful of thyme. Some cats smiled as she passed, a natural reaction to the happy aura that exuded from the tiny she-cat. Weaving her way through a patrol that was just leaving, the medicine cat apprentice made her way over towards the medicine cat den, where no doubt her mentor would be waiting for the new harvest. They'd been running low, and so Morningpaw had taken it upon herself to go and find more, so that way Taintedlove wouldn't screech at her to go get it later when they needed it most. Her stomach dropped at the thought of her mentor, as the older she-cat absolutely terrified Morningpaw.
But then again, Morningpaw also knew that she was very blessed to be a medicine cat apprentice, and in order to achieve that coveted position someday, she would simply have to do her best and work her way through it. So, keeping her chin up, the she-cat padded into the den and gently placed the thyme on the floor, resisting the urge to spit out the bitter taste. "I found some thyme, Taintedlove!" Morningpaw announced proudly. "I thought you might want some since we're getting low."

Taintedlove almost didnt hear her apprentice come in while counting herbs. She let her head and green eyes turn around and raised an eyebrow. She then looked over at the huge pile of thyme Taintedlove, collected herself early this morning before Morningpaw ever woke up. She loved getting up early for these things but apparently Morningpaw didnt look around the den to see if anything changed. "Great..you got enough for Riverclan and Shadowclan put together. So if they ever run out we can all make happy friends and trot happily over and tell them, HEY! My apprentice wasnt smart enough to look around the den to see that we already got some thyme so I was mouse brained and went to get some anyway and bring it back and waste so much plants! Doesnt that sound great Morningpaw?!" she mewed sarcasticly happy then turned her smile into a 'really?' look.
She took the thyme anyway from her apprentice and placed it with her own. Flattening her ears she rolled her eyes and gave a small growl. She told her leader she didnt need an apprentice. And this was a good reason why. Turning around she headed to the other side of the den, "I got up early this morning to collect some morningpaw, have your name be useful and actually get up once in a while! Thought you were named morning for a good reason..might as well rename you and call you Over slept paw.." she snapped not looking at her apprentice.

Almost immediately, Morningpaw shrank away from her mentor, flattening her ears against her head in shame. She always felt horrid when she was told that she'd done something wrong, and her hazel eyes drifted to the floor so she could avoid looking at Taintedlove. She scuffed a paw across the dirt. All she ever did was try, and almost every time she seemed to mess something up. It was all she could to do keep herself from feeling like a complete and utter failure. "I'm sorry, Taintedlove," she murmured softly, tucking her tail close to her body as she lowered her head. Whenever Morningpaw felt this way, she just made herself as small as possible. "I was only trying to help. I was thinking maybe you could show me where some other herbs are in the forest. I only know where to find the thyme and the dandelion leaves are. Maybe I could get something else we need." Her ears perked at the idea.

She wants me to show her where herbs are? More work for me to do with her? Starclan really? she thought. She looked at her apprentice not feeling sorry for, not even a bit. Rolling her eyes she stopped counting her herbs for the second time today and moan, "Fine I'll go show you more herbs..lets go.." padding to the den etnerence. She looked back at her apprentice with a eyebrow raised and hissed, "Cant you move? Starclan did give you legs. You made a mistake. Get over it. No reason feeling sorry for yourself. you'll get no where in this position if you hold things against yourself. If you let a cat die you gonna sulk in your den for moons on end? No. suck it up. move on. Lets go." she padded out of her den with her apprentice at her side or not.

For a moment, Morningpaw was absolutely positive that Taintedlove was just going to tell her to make herself useful and fetch her some freshkill or go check on the elders. A lot of the time the tiny apprentice just tried to stay out of her mentor's way, or tried to learn something. But most of the time, when she was trying to learn something... well, basically her two goals often contradicted each other. Morningpaw never meant to be a great burden, and she always felt like such a clumsy and useless kit whenever Taintedlove told her off, which was quite often.
But, to her surprise, Taintedlove agreed to take her out, and Morningpaw's ears perked as her hazel eyes brightened. Bounding out after her mentor, her tail straight up in the air, she felt as if she could burst with excitement. "Coming! Thank you, Taintedlove!" The seven-moon she-cat dashed to catch up with the medicine cat, and she trotted to keep pace with her. "I'll do everything I can to make sure no cat dies under my care," Morningpaw said bluntly, twitching her tail. "And I promise I won't sulk anymore. I'm sorry."

Taintedlove threw up in her mouth a little when she saw how happy her apprentice got when she told her that she was going to take her out. Giving a moan she listened to the little thank you and didnt look at her apprentice until after she said she was sorry. "Wanna kill that smile off your face? If it gets any bigger I swear it might fall off....on second thought.. keep smiling.." she mewed in a not happy tone. Cats are going to die under your care you nimwitt. You can cheat death.. she thought to herself. Yet she will tell her apprentice that later when the time comes. Not like she was trying to protect her apprentice from the outside world but she didnt feel like telling her. She didnt want to talk period.
Walking out of camp she was glad no cat stopped her but having two medicine cats out of the camp wasnt the best idea. She was going to mke this fast and painless as possible. For herself. Coming into the woods she spotted a herb right away. She looked at her apprentice and mewed, "See that little sucker over there. It has a kind of purple color to it? Thats lavender. Leaves & flowers are particularly good when eaten for easing pains in head and throat. Inhaling the sent of fresh Lavender can also calm the nerves. Learn it now. moving on." Walking on she heard a buzzing noise. She looked to the noise and found a bee on a flower. After the bee was done collecting its pollen she burst out into a run to follow the little thing. Finally she stopped and came to a huge hive. "Honey. Helps sooth the throat. We use this also for when a cat inhales smoke lets say from a fire."

Morningpaw immediately flattened her ears against her head at the admonishment for smiling, and the acidic remark instantly wiped the smile from her face. This was how it was, day in and day out. Some of the other apprentices questioned Morningpaw as to why she even tried pleasing Taintedlove, when it was clear that there was no pleasing the elder medicine cat. But Morningpaw simply didn't have an exact answer to give them. She didn't have any explicit reason. But just giving up? That wasn't something a medicine cat would do, and so Morningpaw refused to do so. Even if it meant she had to deal with a grumpy old mentor like Taintedlove was shaping out to be.
But soon the sheepish expression vanished off the little tabby's mug as her ears perked and she immediately took in everything her mentor was telling her. She committed everything to memory. Lavender. Purple tint. Good for easing head and throat pains, also for calming the nerves. Got it. Sure, Morningpaw was only seven moons old and was sure she'd forget something somewhere along the road, but it was enough to convince herself to remember for now. They came upon the honey, and Morningpaw looked up at it curiously. "How do you get the honey?" she inquired, flicking her tail back and forth. "Won't the bees get angry if you try to take the honey? And what happens if they sting you?" The thought of getting stung by a bee wasn't exactly on the top of Morningpaw's priority list.

Taintedlove closed her eyes knowing she was going to ask a question. Opening up her eyes she mewed, "Either one the honey will drop from the hive and onto the ground. Another way is to wait and have the hive fall to the ground. Just because the hive falls does not mean the honey is not in there. Starclan gave you legs, get up and climb the darn tree. Your a medicine cat arent you? Treat your own wounds if you get stung. duh.." She looked down at her apprentice and motioned her to follow her. Standing directly under the hive she stood next to a puddle of sticky gold stuff. "Most of the time. It will fall for you. Of course you will need to find something else to help sooth throats when the bees arent around during leaf bare. And another way you can treat throats is using what herb?" she asked hoping her medicine cat apprentice was paying attention.

Morningpaw wrinkled her nose. She certainly didn't like the idea of getting stung. Not one bit. She'd never gotten stung before by a bee, but she was most definitely sure that it wasn't something she would enjoy. The medicine cat apprentice liked the idea of waiting for the honey to fall much better. She nodded to show acknowledgement of her mentor's words. But then, she was asked a question. Thinking about it for a moment, Morningpaw twitched her tail. Then it came to her. "Well, honey's the best to use, but if it's leafbare you could use tansy. That's mostly used for coughing, but it could help with a sore throat too. Did I get that right?" Her ears perked in hope. Maybe, for once, Taintedlove wouldn't yell at her.

Frostbite stared at her apprentice for a good fifteen seconds before saying anything. "We just talked about lavender. what does lavender do Morningpaw? Please refresh my little cat brian what lavender does?!" Frostbite just told her what lavender does. how could this little apprentice ever forget that? "Tansy is used mainly for the cough itsself morningpaw... if we are worrying about the throate we use Lavender. Get the picture?" Frostbite then padded away from her apprentice. "Follow!" she hissed not looking back.
On her lovely walk with her apprentice she spotted Marigold leaves. "Marigold leaves. Good for infected wounds. Mainly you chew this wonderful tastey stuff up and place it in the wound. It does sting. So its up to you if you want to tell the cat your putting it on it will or not sting. I usually dont." She looked not far from it and saw another plant that was useful for her apprentice to know. "These are traveling hersb. you will take these if you are going on a long journey. also its to help you not feel hungry while on the trip. Got any idea with who would we would be giving these herbs to?" she asked.
